Guatemala Mission: Cataract and Pterygium Surgery. This seven-day mission was organized in Santa Elena Hospital, Quiche, Guatemala. Agape in Action, Houston, TX and Alcon Industries, Fort Worth, TX sponsored the supplies and we donated our personal time and our own expenses. We saw 577 patients and performed over 60 cataract surgeries and 29 pterygium surgeries in the native Mayan population who have limited access to health care.

A weekend trip to Ecuador was planned to perform 30 eye surgeries; however the trip was abandoned due to security risks.

I have established self-sustainable surgical ophthalmology services in South America, Africa and Pakistan. I work with non-government organizations (NGOs) in those regions. I organize ophthalmology mission trips, in conjunction with “Sisters of Mercy” (a religious congregation founded in Dublin, Ireland) branch in Houston, TX.

Before COVID, I was working on the last phase of establishing free eye clinics in Alachua and Marion counties and intend to finalize these clinics once COVID restrictions are fully lifted.
